Ria Unson's painting of a woman and a baby in St. Louis

Geronima

2019

graphite, watercolor, gouache, digital paint, and collage on canvas

20 x 24"

Geronima explores the complexity of cultural hybridity, assimilation, and colonization by telling two visual narratives simultaneously. The allegorical domestic scene is inspired by my experience being Filipino in America while the title alludes more directly to the Philippine-American War.
