Tandaan si Basilio
2021
altered book: gouache, acrylic, hemp cord, found objects
9" x 12” x 1-1/2"
Remember Basilio, the Igorot chief who climbed a 50-foot pole in 20 seconds on August 13, 1904—one of the World's Fair "Anthropology Days." He subsequently died of pneumonia, leaving behind his wife and their daughter at the fair. I alter books as a commentary on narratives that have historically been erased.
