mga kuwento namin (stories we tell)
First shown in a solo exhibition at the Center for Creative Arts, Mga Kuwento Namin projects the photographic archives of the 1904 World’s Fair across acrylic portraits of modern Filipino women, layering historical propaganda over living faces to reveal how century-old myths still distort the way Filipinos are seen today. Accompanied by a chorus of voices speaking in their historically suppressed mother tongues, the installation revives a pre-colonial oral tradition. Mga kuwento namin stands as a tender yet defiant inquiry into how a people reclaims its voice and demonstrates a way to create true belonging.
